Sunset Overdrive's premise is gleefully stupid But by mixing superhero acrobatics, a skateboard-inspired sense of environmental navigation and a unifying sense of humor and style, Sunset Overdrive demonstrates a surprising amount of inspiration and, well, heart. But it's rare that I play a game that feels like it was driven by heart and a desire to make something specific, that only a specific collection of people could accomplish.Īfter almost a decade of making Ratchet and Clank games and three installments of the first-person shooter series Resistance, developer Insomniac's last chance at making something new resulted in 2013's compromised, muddled Fuse, an action game in search of a soul.

Many games feel like well-assembled concepts that someone thought would be a good, successful idea, and several of those end up as good, successful games.
